The Apple Watch Series 2 Made Its Appearance at the Apple Event

At Apple’s Sept. 7 event today, the next generation Apple Watch was announced. Will the Apple Watch Series 2 include the anticipated faster chip, barometer, GPS radio, and water-resistance that we thought it would? What can we expect as far as other new features, design changes, and pricing? Here’s the scoop.

Physical changes

As far as the design for the next Watch, it will include the following physical changes:

  • Swim-proof: water resistant up to 50 meters
  • Redesigned speaker to eject the water
  • S2 dual core processor
  • New GPU
  • Brighter display at 1,000 nits
  • Built-in GPS with pace and distance for workouts
  • Aluminum, stainless steel, ceramic (white) options

Pricing and availability

Prices for the Apple Watch Series 2 will start at $369. Available on Sept. 16, pre-orders for the Watch begin Sept 9. And also note that watchOS 3 will be available Sept. 13.

What else is new?

Trainers can look forward to Pokemon GO on their wrist, which can be expected before the end of the year. And, Apple Watch Nike+ for runners will also be available starting at $369 in four different colors.

Original Apple Watch status

What impact will the snazzy Apple Watch Series 2 have on the first generation Apple Watch? If you are in the market for the popular smartwatch, but do not want to spend too much just yet, you can still grab the original Apple Watch with prices starting at just $269; labeled as Apple Watch Series 1.

Although I am planning to stick with my original Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Series 2 certainly brings some great stuff to the next generation wearable.
