Win A Copy Of Numolition To Demolish The Comic Book World Of Numbers
Numolition ($1.99) by Q42 B.V. is a collapse-style math and puzzle game that will require the use of your mental-math thinking cap. However, there is a twist: the entire game is set within a comic book, involving comic book characters along the way. In an attempt to disguise a math game behind something fun and engaging, Numolition passes with flying colors.
I call Numolition “collapse-style” because of the idea of falling blocks, which move around to add with others and disappear as well. Each block presented in a given level has a numerical value from one to nine, and can be combined to add up to this amount as well.
After picking your level from the pages of a comic book, you will enter an animated world of demolition sites where you must engineer the destruction of the structures made of these blocks. As they explode, the whole screen will rumble, which can also be very immersive if you're playing with the sound on.
Along with the goal of clearing all the blocks in a level to proceed, there are also specific objectives that will help you earn stars, which essentially consist of numbers you should try to end up with. The stars you earn from this will go toward unlocking the Towers and Sandbox modes, which are not separated into levels so much.
In Tower mode, instead of having traditional levels that need to be cleared, a tower of blocks that continuously replenishes itself will take up the screen. Here, addition up to 10 can be performed in order to create special bombs that will demolish entire sections of the tower. To bump things up a notch, the Sandbox mode includes a Tower-like concept, but instead involves a large pile of blocks that have to be cleared all the way to earn a star.
While playing Numolition, the thing that stands out the most is its original theme. While the overall concept in Numolition is not mind-blowing or paradigm-shifting, the attention to detail paid in its development is impressive. The colors are just right, the typeface is a fitting comic font, and the sound effects, music, and effects are spot-on. I've never seen a comic theme executed this well in any other game, and to make things better, the actual gameplay brings forth quite a challenge.
Numolition should, without a doubt, be the next puzzle game you own. As a universal app priced at $1.99, you can find it in the App Store here.
