Axiom ($0.99) by Diwaniya Labs Inc. is a math based educational game that lets you learn while you’re having fun.
Unlike most educational games, this one is actually enjoyable, even if you’re not trying to learn anything.
After making your way through a few levels in Axiom, you might even forget that it’s supposed to be teaching you how to work with numbers.
Although the concept behind Axiom is easy to understand, it’s quite a challenging game. The aim is to get your tilt-controled ship to the exit without crashing into the dangerous obstacles. To get to the exit, there are various barriers that you have to unlock by solving equations.
There are numbers and mathematical operations floating throughout each level and you need to combine them until they can unlock a barrier. To do this, you just guide your ship to the right numbers and operations, then make your way to the exit.
To achieve a better score, you need to collect as many stars as possible while on your journey. The stars disappear after a few seconds, so you need to be quick.
Even without the math based elements, some of the levels are quite challenging. The educational aspects actually add to the fun, especially when you manage to solve the equations fast enough to collect all of the stars. There are four worlds to make your way through, but you need to collect enough stars to unlock them.
As you progress, both the gameplay and the equations become more difficult, but they don’t become so challenging that the game is impossible to complete.
If you’re trying to improve your abilities with numbers, but find educational apps boring, this game is certainly worth downloading.
The gameplay, graphics, background music, and overall experience make Axiom worth considering, even if you’re not trying to learn anything.
You can get Axiom for both the iPhone and iPad for $0.99 in the App Store.
