Super School Day ($0.99) by Second Impact Games is an adventure game that lets you choose your own educational destiny. That makes this app sound like some sort of university prep course that’s conveniently located on your iDevice, but this game is much more amazing. This is one of those reviews where I gush ridiculously over the game and then worry that I didn’t do it justice.
You start the game with two different characters. You can unlock four more as the game progresses. Most of these characters have extra personality or intelligence points. These points help to determine the outcome of your school adventure.
From the moment you wake up until the end of the school day, you have a series of mini games that you get to play. In fact, there are 16 of them that you can compete in. Your goal is to score an A+ grade. These games aren’t your typical school activities. One of them is helping an alien land safely while avoiding nuclear bombs. There’s one that involves beating the crud out of an old car by using button patterns to create battle combos like in Mortal Kombat. You have to smash dinosaur eggs, and race down the halls with fire extinguisher-powered rolling chairs. Seriously, I wish I had the room to list all the other games in detail. There are plenty more that are just as hilarious.
The great thing about this game is that you don’t compete in every mini game each time you play. Some of them you choose to compete in by the answers that you give the teacher. Other games are randomly chosen by the app. For example, some mornings, you get to pick out your outfit, and other times you have to rearrange chunks of letters to match the sentence at the top of the screen.
By the end of the school day, you can take an exam, party, or save the world. If you have a lot of intelligence points and choose to study, you’ll have more time to take the exam, and you’ll get hints along the way. If you choose to party, you get to dance by tapping on arrows at the right moment like in Dance Dance Revolution. Having more personality points will give you a slower song so that you can get a higher rating. Don’t ask me about saving the world. I still haven’t figured it out. I can tell you, though, that it involves a rat, chewing gum, and a meteor.
I’ve played a lot of strange, silly, and lame games. This is the best game that I’ve ever played. I’m absolutely in love with it. The price is awesome considering what you get in return. The challenges and gameplay are difficult and addictive. The idea behind the game is ridiculously creative, and I loved all the different possible outcomes from your choices. This is a great game for everyone to try.
