Quirky App Of The Day: Get To The Nuts And Bolts Of Steampunk Chicken
Why did this chicken cross the road? Because the sky pirate Captain Featherbeard is stealing airships. Steampunk Chicken is an endless runner game that features some pretty awesome industrial artwork.
I test a lot of endless runner games. They’re ridiculously popular. I can confidently say that the extra effort that goes into the artwork helps to separate the great endless runners from the mediocre ones.
In this app, the steampunk elements blend old school cogs and gears with advanced technology. In fact, steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that features steam-powered machinery. For instance, the chickens have nitro guns that they use to blast away any traps and gizmos that stand in their path. It’s that meshing together of old and new technology that defines steampunk. Well, at least as far as I understand it.
This endless runner has silver and copper coins that you can collect. You can use these coins to unlock new characters. The cheapest character is 2,500 coins. The next character costs 10,000. If you want to unlock the last character, you have to be willing to pay $1.99. You can’t just use in-game coins.
You can also remove the ads through an in-app purchase of $2.99. That’s pretty expensive compared to other games. The typical price is $0.99. There are also several in-app purchases for coins. You can buy 1,000 for $0.99, 5,000 for $2.99, and 10,000 for $5.99. Again, these are pretty expensive when compared to typical in-app purchase prices.
I don’t know much about steampunk, but I do know that it has its own cult following. I thought that if anyone was interested in steampunk, they might appreciate the graphics.
Steampunk Chicken is a universal app, and it’s available in the App Store for FREE!
