Quirky App Of The Day: Slice And Dice Your Way Through Slash!Hero

Slash!Hero (Free) by AKUNOSOSHIKI LLC is a great action game that has you slashing your way through a bamboo forest. Have you ever seen those old ninja movies where they hop from one wooden peg to another while doing some fancy fighting? That’s what Slash!Hero is like. Only this time, you’re over a bed of spikes and hopping along bamboo poles. Now, if there was horrible dubbing where the mouth is still moving without any sound coming out, I think we could make a movie out of this app. Just kidding.

I love stick figures in apps. Maybe it’s the fact that I am a horrible artist, or maybe it’s because I’m in love with the XKCD comics. Either way, I’m a sucker for a minimalist stick figure app.

Your stick figure hero is skilled at cutting random targets with his sword. This isn’t any ordinary sword, though. This sword can grow and shorten all by itself. The trick is to estimate how long you need your sword to be in order to strike the target and miss the bamboo pole around it.

Once you think your sword is long enough, make a slashing motion across the target with your finger. This will make your hero swing his sword. If you’ve estimated correctly, the hero will cut through the target. If you hit the outer ring around the heart of the target, you can press a button that says “fire” at the bottom of the screen. The hero will then slash again and cut right through the target’s core.

You’ll come up against some targets that are black. These targets must be slashed by hitting the outer ring with the sword and then pressing the fire button. The target core is too tough for you to cut through on your own.

I loved this game for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that the controls are ridiculously easy. All you have to do is slash and sometimes press a button. It doesn’t get much easier than that. The second reason is the simple fact that this game features a stick figure. I’m incredibly easy to entertain and please. Simple controls and stick figures are about all it takes to get me hooked. The third reason is the incredible price tag. It’s a completely free app. I recommend hurrying over to the App Store to download it while it still doesn’t cost a dime.
