SEGA has released an update to its original Sonic the Hedgehog game for iPhone, adding a large number of impressive improvements. Besides full iPad and Retina display support, the revamped application also features unlockable characters in the form of Tails and Knuckles, a new Time Attack mode, and enhanced on-screen virtual controls.
While the game was indeed something of a head-turner when it launched back in the olden days of 2009, version 2.0 of SEGA's $2.99 app is now better than ever. Though the chance of playing as either Tails or Knuckles is a feature fans of the series will surely appreciate, perhaps the most impressive change to Sonic the Hedgehog is the gaming experience itself. The app now feels smoother and more responsive, meaning users will find it all the harder to put SEGA's Sonic the Hedgehog down once they've started playing a game.
In addition to the above, Game Center integration brings both leaderboards and achievements to the application, thereby allowing users to compare their Sonic skills with friends.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2.0, which includes the above improvements and more, is available to download in the App Store now. As mentioned, the application is optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
