Tencent's WeChat Updated To Version 5.0 With New Sticker Shop And Other Features
WeChat, the cross-platform mobile messaging app developed by Chinese Internet giant Tencent, has just received its 5.0 update on iOS. WeChat 5.0 introduces several new features, perhaps the most notable of which is the new Sticker Shop. WeChat has long supported stickers to liven up messaging, but it's only now that the app has added a dedicated section where you can purchase stickers. The new Sticker Shop can be accessed by tapping the + button in the emoticon keyboard or by going to the Me tab. It initially offers five new sticker packs, each costing $0.99 to unlock. The new WeChat update also adds support for favoriting messages or moments. If you'd like to save a certain message or moment for quick access, just tap and hold it and select Favorite in the contextual menu. You can see all of your favorites in the Favorite Messages section in the Me tab. If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. In addition, WeChat 5.0 introduces a new Hold Together function that lets you add friends nearby by, well, holding together a virtual button. WeChat 5.0 is available now in the App Store for free. The app is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 4.3 or later. In related news, Tencent has also released the Chinese-language Bejeweled-like Tian Tian Ai Xiao Chu, the first iOS game linked to WeChat.
