Monument Valley to gain new levels through upcoming 'Forgotten Shores' expansion

November 7, 2014

Monument Valley is set to be updated with its highly anticipated first expansion next week.

Since its launch to critical acclaim in April, the Apple Design Award-winning impossible puzzle game developed by Whale Trail creator Ustwo, which initially contains only 10 levels, has been having players asking for more. The thing is, those 10 levels constitute a complete narrative, to which the addition of more levels may prove ill-conceived, at least from a storytelling standpoint.

Fortunately, Ustwo's windfall from having sold more than 1 million copies of the paid game has allowed for the development of so-called “lost scenes.” Available through Monument Valley's upcoming “Forgotten Shores” expansion, these lost scenes are made up of eight new levels that are, as noted by Wired, “inserted between the penultimate and final levels of the original.”

Forgotten Shores is scheduled to become available on Thursday, Nov. 13, via a $1.99 in-app purchase.

Monument Valley is available as a $3.99 universal iOS download from the App Store.
