Ahead of Avernum 2's launch, Avernum: Escape from the Pit goes half price
Next week, Spiderweb Software is bringing its anticipated Avernum sequel, Avernum 2: Crystal Souls, to the App Store. In preparation for the new app, the original Avernum title, Avernum: Escape from the Pit, has gone on sale and can be downloaded for half its usual price.
Optimized for the iPad only and usually priced at $9.99, Avernum: Escape from the Pit can indeed be downloaded for just $4.99 for a limited time only. Though we’re unsure exactly how long the first game in the Avernum series is going to hold on to this discounted price tag, it seems likely that the sale will last up until the release of Avernum 2: Crystal Souls, which is scheduled for next Thursday. However, if you’re interested in downloading Avernum: Escape from the Pit for half price (which you should be, if have a liking for this kind of game), we’d advise you do so pronto.
Avernum: Escape from the Pit first launched on iOS back in 2012, and it met with huge interest from iOS device owners. Offering gamers a fairly classic role-playing game (RPG) experience, the title tells the tale of a group of exiles who are seeking and battling for a land to call their own. Spiderweb Software explains:
The surface is ruled by the cruel Emperor Hawthorne, master of the Empire. All of the known lands are subject to his brutal command. Everyone who speaks out, who misbehaves, who doesn’t fit in is cast into the dark, volcanic pits of Avernum, far below the surface. There, you are expected to die, a victim of starvation, horrible monsters, or simple despair.
But not all of the Avernites have surrendered. With magic and steel, they are forging a new nation deep underground. You can join them and fight for safety. Or freedom. Or even, if you dare, revenge on the surface-dwellers who tried to destroy you.
As such, Avernum: Escape from the Pit features a huge underground world for gamers to explore, it includes more than 80 towns and dungeons, and a total of three separate game-winning quests are available for iOS device owners to choose from. Of course, being an RPG the app also features unique races which offer their own defining skill sets, countless side-quests and magical artefacts, and a huge number of spells and character traits for players to choose from.
