Apple is Retiring the iTunes LP Format Next Month

Apple is retiring the iTunes LP format starting next month. The news was first reported by Metro News and Apple officially confirmed the news to The Verge.

While Apple will no longer accept iTunes LP submissions, previously purchased content will still be available to users.

Officially launched in 2009, the iTunes LP format was designed to provide music buyers more than just the music. Some of the additional content included lyrics, liner notes, band photos, performance videos, and more.

Apple has long denied rumors that iTunes music purchases may eventually be phased out. But with the Apple Music subscription service quickly growing, and even posied to overtake Spotify in the United States in 2018, its obvious Apple is focusing more efforts on the streaming side of the music business.
