ExpSAFE Blast Calculator

ExpSAFE Blast Calculator is an iPhone application that has been developed to enable quick blast wave predictions for Dangerous Goods Class 1.1 and support Quantity-Distance reviews.  The application can be considered as a Level 1 Analysis tool that is intended to estimate blast effects from the detonation of a given quantity of explosives at a specified distance. The Blast Calculator sacrifices complexity for simplicity and ease of use.  Users should note that this application is only focused on blast and the resulting estimations for injury and damage do not consider the other contributing effects (fragmentation, debris, and thermal radiation) resulting from an explosion. Importantly this application is not intended for safety critical analysis or formal decision making purposes (refer the disclaimer statement for more information).  
 
FEATURES OF THIS VERSION
* Determine the blast effective yield based on Net Explosive Quantity and the TNT equivalence assigned to the type of explosives being consideration.
* Calculate the Blast Scaling factor based on the Effective Yield of explosives and specified distance from the potential explosives site.
* Predict a range of blast wave characteristics including overpressure and impulse, based on based on simplified mathematical formulas that assume the explosion is hemispherical.  Note the results do not take into account casing, placement, or structures around the point of detonation.
* List a range of open source injury and damage threshold distances based on the specified explosive quantity.
* Based on NATO QD Safeguarding criteria, show NEQ limits based on user distance and distances based on user specified explosives quantity. The results are for information purposes only.
