Control the totems. In Kalimba, players must control two totem pieces at once and guide them through treacherous lands to find the other totems to rebuild and restore light to the land. Solve challenging puzzles and avoid dangers.
Watch your timing. Besides jumping, you'll have to swap totems to get past certain barriers. Timing is key! Swap at the right time to get through dangerous without dying, because each death will cost you.
Earn golden totems. If you can get all of the pickups without dying, then you'll earn the elusive golden totem by the end of the level. There are also hidden challenge rooms that you'll want to unlock for even more replay value.
What is it about?
Visually, Kalimba is gorgeous. The game features an aesthetically pleasing minimalist design that is full of geometric shapes that come to life. Everything is rendered in 2-D with bright and vibrant colors and amazing textures. The totems and narrator have distinctive appearances so it’s always easy to tell each character apart from one another. Environments dynamically change once the toggles get activated, and it’s all done in a seamless transition that’s rather mesmerizing with particle effects. Animations in Kalimba are buttery smooth and fluid, with zero lag on my iPhone 7. There’s also voice acting through the narration, and it’s incredibly well done. A quirky soundtrack plays in the background, which fits in with the overall quirky theme of the game. Overall, Kalimba is beautifully designed inside and out in terms of visual and audio.

The island of Kalimba has been cast into darkness by an evil shaman. Your totems must journey from the underworld to the heavens in order to restore light to the land. Thankfully, Hoebear the vaguely bear-shaped Metabear will be your spirit guide in this quest. Rebuild the totem pole to bring back the positive vibes to Kalimba.
In Kalimba, you play two coloured totem pole pieces simultaneously – one on the top half, and one on the bottom half of the screen. Avoid dark pits, deadly spikes and roaming enemies, but remember the totems move together. One totem jumps over a hole, the other jumps into spikes; one soars into the sky while the other tumbles into the abyss.
