The Polyglots apps are part of the Early Learning Languages Australia (ELLA) program, funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, and managed by Education Services Australia. They are a series of engaging, play-based language learning apps that encourage children in the early years of schooling to explore another language and culture.
Schools choose to set the apps to one language from a choice of Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Modern Greek, Spanish, Turkish, and Vietnamese.
App 8: The Polyglots Go to School is the first of four new apps designed for primary school students in years 1–2. It is set in a vibrant school environment and provides opportunities for year 1 students to learn language that is commonly heard in the school setting. Students will learn the words for classroom objects, and a range of verbs and phrases used to provide and follow instructions. Some language from Apps 1–7 is also revisited in this app, such as greetings, numbers to ten, colours and likes and dislikes.
