App Store Description

The selfBACK app is made for users with non-specific low back pain. It facilitates, improves and reinforces self-management of neck and low back pain. The app has been developed using AI methods to implement a decision support system that adapts to the user’s progress and provides tailored physical activity and exercise recommendations based on the symptom state, symptom progression, the user’s goal-setting, and a range of patient characteristics including information on steps taken by the user.

The selfBACK app requires access to the user’s step count provided by the Health App. The steps are used to tailor the self-management content, compute achievement scores and support weekly goal setting and activity progression. Furthermore, it provides a tailor-made knowledge library and teaches various self-management techniques. All content and recommendations provided follow the current state of research.

The selfBACK system is the result of the selfBACK research project that has received funding from the European Union Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 689043. The current study is part of the BackUP project that has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 777090.
