If you have ever needed to get text from a photo on your iPhone or iPod touch, you can understand the difficulty of trying to memorize it long enough to back out of your photo library and launch your notes application.  A new application is available in the App Store that allows you to make this process that much easier. phototext_screen PhotoText allows you to open a photo in the application, or you can take a new photo within the application itself, and easily jot down the text from the photo.  You can zoom in, swipe, or rotate the photo until you find the desired text contained within it.  You can then open the text editor portion of the application and start typing.  Once you have jotted down the text, you can send it via email, SMS, call a number, or Google Text, which will allow you to perform a search of the text in mobile Safari. Of course the camera functionality is only available for the iPhone, but you can still pull images in from your library if you are an iPod touch user.  Just to be clear, this application requires manual input of the text itself, as it doesn't contain an optical character recognition feature, so don't expect it to do all of the work for you. PhotoText is available in the App Store for $.99.
