App Store controversy ninjawordsrejectApple started the week off with a bang by banning Khalid Shaikh and all of his 943 different apps from the App Store.  We then found out that Apple  not only censored a dictionary app, but also decided to slap it with a 17+ rating even though all objectionable content had been removed.  Phil Schiller decided to step in and tell the rest of the story.  Apple's banhammer was dropped on multiple e-book readers, fueling the rumor that Apple wants to enter the e-book market.  To cap off the week, Apple removed the paid version of Offender Locator for unknown legal reasons but the lite version remains. Denial-of-service failwhaleTwo high-profile social networking sites were brought to their knees early Thursday morning thanks to denial-of-service attacks (DoS).  DoS attacks are basically an attempt to render a high-profile site or service unusable to its users by flooding it with incoming data requests, such as emails.   Twitter was hit the hardest, causing the site to be completely inaccessible to all of its users.  Facebook, however, was able to withstand the attacks, albeit barely.  The site remained accessible, but users experienced random errors and extremely slow load times. Popular new apps nfl2010PushMail turned out to be an interesting way to get push notifications for your Gmail account, although many users remained skeptical about how the service operates.  Gameloft released the App Store's very first full football simulation game, NFL 2010.  Trace developer Bovinedragon finally released their second title, Gomi.  Pangea entered the casual App Store market by giving it The Finger.  IUGO released a spinoff to their extremely popular Toy Bot Diaries series called Spy Bot Chronicles. So many updates bargainbin_screenThere were a lot of updates to great apps this week but we only have so much room, so here are just the most intriguing ones.  Twittelator Pro received the ability to mute noisy tweeters and it is also now prepared for the second coming of the Twitpocalypse.  Pocket God Episode 23: Bait Master was released, which included a Harbor Master-like mini-game.  IM+ 3.3 was released with the ability to send push notifications for all Twitter timeline updates.  BargainBin, our very own app, was updated to v3.0, which included the ability to send push notifications when apps have dropped in price.  Thanks for your support! Three new Applists applistswirYou keep asking for them, and we just keep on delivering them.  This week we released not one, not two, but three new Applists to help you find the best apps in the App Store.  Twitter Push Apps contains all of the best apps that push tweets.  Apps For The Great Outdoors contains apps for hiking, skywatching, birding, biking, surfing and more.  And our most popular new Applist, Apps That Make iPhone OS 3.0 Great, contains only the best apps that utilize the most popular new iPhone OS 3.0 features.  If you see any apps that we may have missed in any of the lists, feel free to let us know!
