Rock and roll!
Apple's "Rock and roll" event was nearly perfect. They surprisingly released iPhone OS 3.1 to the masses, iTunes 9 was let out of the bag with a hefty amount of new features, new games were shown off, and we witnessed all new iPods. One of those new iPods, however, was the source of a bit of controversy. Somehow, someway, Steve and company forgot to put the darn camera in the iPod touch. Apple kind of made up for this gaffe by dropping the price of the iPod touch software update to only $4.95. If you missed the event, you can watch it now on Apple's website.
iTunes 9 to the rescue
iTunes 9 probably ended up being the biggest announcement from Apple's event, simply because of all of the new additions and changes. It now sports a brand new interface, Top Grossing apps list, , Genius recommendations for apps, and it even broke the Palm Pre's ability to sync with it. Apparently it isn't all peaches and cream in iTunes 9 land however, as developers have started noticing a drop in overall sales because of the new interface, specifically, the decision to move the categories to a less visible drop down arrow.
Appisodes
You are no longer forced to have to read the news! I know, it's a dream come true for some of you. Our own Robin Rhys has decided to put her natural ability to speak in front of a camera to good use and has started filming daily Appisodes. These Appisodes are a quick rundown of all of the iPhone news along with a few added tidbits. Check out all three Appisodes, and after giving them a watch, leave some feedback so we can make this the best daily video news source it can be.
Only good news from AT&T
For once AT&T has nothing but good news for us. They have decided to work together with Apple to bring new features to the iPhone based on customer feedback, which they are hoping will better their image. They formally announced plans to begin their HSPA 7.2 rollout in six major markets; and finally, they announced a new program titled A-List, which will basically be their answer to T-Mobile's myFaves.
New and noteworthy
C64 turns your iPhone or iPod touch into a Commodore 64. Gameloft released their Soul Calibur clone, Blades of Fury. Flickr finally released an official app. Taito knows what gamers want and it's called Arkanoid. Two music streaming apps received Apple's stamp of approval: Spotify and Rhapsody. TomTom better watch out because Navigon's MobileNavigator just keeps getting better. EA released Madden NFL 2010 just in time for the NFL's regular season.
