AT&T: iPhone 4 Backordered At Our Stores Until June 29

AT&T has announced, in this statement, that pre-ordered iPhone 4 handsets will be available for customers this week.
Whether you opted to have your iPhone 4 delivered directly to you, or alternatively if you decided that in-store pickup was the way to go, an iPhone 4 (should) be in your hands by the end of the week. At least that's what AT&T has said.
If you were hoping to just drop into an AT&T store to buy a brand new iPhone 4 on Thursday, then think again. The statement also declares that if you don't have an iPhone 4 pre-ordered you won't be able to purchase one until Tuesday, June 29. Here's what AT&T said regarding "retail purchases:"
"Retail purchase (no preorder): AT&T plans to have iPhone 4 inventory – available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last – on June 29 in its retail locations, at www.att.com, and in business sales channels. As inventory sells out, AT&T will offer the convenient option of purchasing iPhone 4 and having it delivered to a home or business or an AT&T store. As always, customers will receive an email once their order is placed, and again when it ships."This is bad news for those of you who didn't manage to preorder an iPhone 4 on June 15. We're also wondering what this means for inventory at Apple retail stores. At least one thing is certain: if you haven't pre-ordered an iPhone 4, stay clear of AT&T stores on Thursday.
