Borders Launches Universal eBook App

The popular books retailer, Borders, has launched a universal eBook application that has hit the App Store today.
The free app, which is powered by Kobo - who are due to release a Kindle-style eReader in the US on July 2 - works in a similar way to Apple's iBooks and Amazon's Kindle app.
In addition, the Borders eBook app comes with five preloaded classics, including Pride and Prejudice and Dracula. A Store tab allows for further purchases and downloads, and a Library tab displays your current library. Also an I'm Reading tab takes you straight to the last book you read, at the last page you left, which is a helpful feature.
The application is pleasant to use and looks great. It's nice to see a good eReader app that hasn't pilfered Apple's iBooks design. Borders eBooks also works well when it comes to the actual reading of a book - though turning pages is done through a tap, and no page-turning animation decorates the transition, which is a shame.
But all in all Borders eBooks is a great eReader app - even if it's just another eReader app. But, alongside iBooks, it's undoubtedly one of the better apps we've looked at - and it's definitely worth checking out, even if it's just for the five free preloaded novels.
So take a look at Borders eBooks in the App Store now, and let us know what you think in the comments box below.
