iOS To Make Its Desktop Debut On Next iMac?

June 24, 2010

Following the release of Apple's multitouch wonders, the iPad and iPhone 4, a rumor has hit the web stating that the next iMac will run a version of iOS, alongside Apple's Mac OS X. The idea is that Apple wants to bring more advanced touch controls to its desktop offerings, and is planning on using the next iMac as something of a guinea pig. Some are speculating that the change in name from iPhone OS, to iOS, has something to do with the operating system's supposed move to a desktop computer. However this may just be due to the iPad's use of Apple's mobile operating system. Additionally, it's not yet known whether the idea is to create a 27-inch built-in touchscreen for the iMac, or if Apple is going to use an external device to manipulate the software, such as the unconfirmed Magic Trackpad. The new iMac is set to debut within the next 60 days, so we don't have that long to wait until we find out. Keep checking back for updates - and let us know if you can see this becoming a reality in the comments box below!
