iPhone Games Gone Free: Guess The News, Heavy Gunner, Hit Them, Rocket Car, And SpaceDuel!
June 17, 2010
Tyler should be returning sometime today from E3 to resume his regular duties and provide you guys with some great news. Today we have some highly rated, great iPhone and iPod touch games that are available for free for the first time ever. Don't miss out on these short-term deals!
Guess the News ($2.99 -> Free): This a great word puzzle type of game where you need to complete recent news headlines by placing the letter in the correct spot to complete the word. As with most puzzle games, this game is scored by your accuracy and how quickly you can complete the given words. You can gain and lose up to a 10X score multiplier. Finishing off this puzzler is the adoption of the OpenFeint network, giving you public leaderboards and achievements, and the fact that you can read the full news articles.
Guess the News is available for free for today only (6/17). It has a three-star rating.
Heavy Gunner + (N/A -> Free): A first-person shooter with a slight twist. Dual wield powerful machine guns to take out various enemies. Combination of tapping to fire and tilting your iDevice for pivoting. Online leaderboards and ranking plus over 100 upgradeable weapons and over 25 missions to complete. Definitely a game for those who enjoy watching things explode and the enjoyment of handling high powered weaponry like an old fashioned Rambo.
Heavy Gunner + is available for free for today only (6/17). It has a three-and-a-half-star rating.
Hit Them ($.99 -> Free): Another OpenFeint equipped title that gives leaderboards and the chance to earn achievements. Test your reflexes by hitting bulls-eye targets, whacking some creatures, or shooting paper targets with quick taps of your finger. Has scalable difficulty, letting you progress as slowly or quickly as needed. I like to think of it as a carnival game experience.
Hit Them is available for free for an unknown period. It has a four-star rating.
Rocket Car ($.99 -> Free): Cartoon style game that's simple but does require some definite skills. As your simple car rolls down the road, you are tasked with firing missiles as accurately as possible at targets. The targets? A green and red line that you gain the most points getting as close as possible to the red portion. Tap on your car than drag in the desired direction to launch a missile. Offers three levels of difficulty.
Rocket Car is available for free for a limited time. It has a three-star rating.
SpaceDuel! ($.99 -> Free): I'd describe this as an Asteroids style game. The standard mode has you compete against better and better AI enemies through each round you complete. You control your ship by swiping your finger in the direction and spin you want to face. It's more like Asteroids because the crafts move in a delayed, drifting type motion. There are two types of weapons, repeating bullets and homing missiles. If high scores aren't enough for you, team up with a friend via Wi-Fi to play multiplayer mode.
SpaceDuel! is available for free for an unknown period. It has a three-and-a-half-star rating.
Some of these great deals may not even last the day, so download them whenever you have a free moment.
