Movies By Flixster Updated With iPad Support, Still Free And Ad-Supported

June 3, 2010

Movies by Flixster, the free go-to iPhone app for everything movie related, has been given the always greatly appreciated iPad optimization.  Now you can view movie showtimes, find theaters near you, purchase tickets, and much more from your iPad in fully optimized, eye catching glory. For better or worse, the iPad-optimized version of Movies launches and stays in landscape mode.  Sorry portrait lovers.  You will find your usual tabbed categories at the bottom of the screen with information for those categories being displayed on the left-hand side in a scrollable list.  Items that are tapped on are detailed in the much larger right-hand side section. Basically, if you have used the iPhone version of the app, you will have no problem navigating your way around this bad boy.  It contains many of the same features as the iPhone version, it's just all easier to access thanks to the much larger screen. Ads are still present, but they are less obtrusive since they are only placed at the top of the scrollable list on the left-hand side. Some of the more popular features that appear to be missing from the iPad version, at least from what I have seen so far during very limited use, are Facebook integration, the ability to rate movies, Netflix queue management, and the ability to share showtimes with friends.  Although there could be many more or possibly even less.  This is the first go-round, so just give them some time to work out the kinks. No matter if you are a landscape hater or not, give Movies a try on your iPad.  It's easy to use, full of information, and will help you ensure a place at your theater of choice thanks to integrated movie ticketing.
