TomTom To Gain Multitasking Support In Next Update

June 8, 2010

TomTom is prepping an update to their popular turn-by-turn navigation software for iPhone to include support for the multitasking feature found in the upcoming iOS 4 update. iOS 4's multitasking feature will allow users to continue receiving spoken directions and quickly return to TomTom for any visual assistance, even if you need to jump to another app during your trip.
“As TomTom continues to innovate and to take advantage of new capabilities of the iOS 4, users of the TomTom app will benefit from the combination of TomTom’s most advanced and acclaimed features and the iPhone’s unique functionality,” said Tom Murray, senior vice president of market development for TomTom Inc. “We are pleased to integrate multitasking capabilities to the newest version of our TomTom app, and to be able to ensure that users can now enjoy other iPhone features while they continue to receive the best routing directions from their TomTom application.”
TomTom will be submitting this new update to Apple for approval after June 21st, the day iOS 4 is to be released.  As for when it will hit the App Store, only time will tell.  It will also be interesting to see what other improvements, if any, are included in the update.
