AdMob CEO: New Analytics Policies Not Yet Enforced By Apple

July 14, 2010

Most of you probably have Apple's latest software update, iOS 4, running on your iPhones and iPod touches - and you'll be enjoying the whole host of new features available to you. Similarly, on July 1, iDevice developers got something of a treat themselves. It's called iAds, and it allows developers to earn pots of cash through Apple-approved ads which appear within their applications. However, AdMob - an already established mobile advertising company - seemed to be the only party losing out, with the company's CEO even stating that the introduction of iAds would undoubtedly threaten Google-owned AdMob. Back in June, when Apple announced iOS 4, the company modified its developer terms and appeared to leave open the possibility of blocking out AdMob, due to the fact that it's not "independent": a requirement seemingly invented to remove iAds' competition.

Since then, AdMob CEO Omar Hamoui has been holding his breath in anticipation of these soon-to-be-enforced policies, and today CNET reports that as of yet, no such change has been made. Here's what Hamoui said regarding the matter in an interview with CNET at MobileBeat 2010:
"They haven't been enforcing (the new regulations) yet. We're very appreciative of that."
So for now, it seems as though AdMob is swimming in safe waters. It's impossible to tell whether Apple is going to continue to ignore their rival iOS advertising company, or if they're planning on clamping down on Google-owned AdMob soon. It's not like Apple to simply "forget" something as major as this: either it'll consciously let AdMob off the hook, or Apple will alter its policies and effectively banish the company from the iOS world forever. We'll just have to wait and see.
