Bump Goes 2.0

July 24, 2010

Whether you are an avid Bump user, or have never even tried it, the new version of Bump is definitely worth checking out. Bump was one of the first apps that many new iPhone users showed off to their friends. Merely loading the app and then "bumping" another iPhone, you could exchange contact information. In the background, the phones establish a network connection to each other to exchange the information without requiring the user to manually configure anything. It was truly one of the first high-tech and simple alternatives to exchange business cards. Now, with a complete overhaul, we have Bump 2.0.

One of the first things people who have used Bump will notice is a completely redone user interface. Once inside, there are many new features. Previous versions of Bump allowed you to share your contact information, photos and other people's contacts. Recent versions have also added the ability to submit a Facebook friend request to the person you're bumping. With 2.0, you can now also submit requests to connect on LinkedIn, as well as follow each other on Twitter. Want to set a follow-up meeting? With Bump 2.0, you can share calendar events and compare schedules. To share all these different types of information more easily, the update adds what the developer calls a chat view. The chat view gives you a way to exchange information back and forth as well as send messages and discuss the information you're sharing.

Ready to Bump? Version 2.0 is available now for free in the App Store.
