Dragon Dictation 2.0 Adds iOS 4 And Social Networking Support
July 24, 2010
Dragon Dictation has been a good speech recognition app choice for nearly the last eight months. While Nuance Communications has been updating the app fairly regularly, this latest release adds some notable features and improvements. The recently released Dragon Dictation v2.0 provides support for fast app switching when used on devices running iOS 4, plus Twitter and Facebook integration. Our worldwide readers should be excited about upcoming native language additions, beginning with German later this month.
“Millions of people have downloaded Dragon Dictation for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and this latest version is a direct result of the features our user community has voiced would make the ‘must-have’ app even better,” said Michael Thompson, senior vice president and general manager, Nuance Mobile. “And with support for more languages, we’re answering the call from our Dragon fans around the world.”Using the app is simple and quick. After launching the app, you're given a single button to tap to begin dictating. The dictation is completed when you click Done or if you pause for more than a couple of seconds. Once your speech has been processed, you're now allowed to do editing and move your text to another application or to the clipboard. To edit text, tapping a word or dragging over a group of words will offer possible replacement word choices and the option to delete. If you're more comfortable or have some more advanced corrections to make, you can access the standard keyboard by tapping the icon in the bottom left. When you're satisfied, tap the icon on the bottom right to send your text to an email, Twitter, SMS, MMS, Facebook, or the clipboard to paste into any other application. There are some items I'd like to specifically mention. Foremost, the app requires an Internet connection to process your speech. The processing and word database are all done server side to make dictation as quick and accurate as possible. Maybe a given, but you can resume dictation after stopping and editing as many times as needed. Basically, there's no need to be worried about an interruption or reviewing what you have thus far. Another very important bit to know is punctuation and other formatting commands. Finally, while dictation seems to be fairly accurate, quiet environments or using a earphones with mic is likely your best bet. Dragon Dictation is a universal app compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and available in the App Store for free.
