Good.iWare Puts The U Back In USB With Updated GoodReaderUSB

July 1, 2010

A number of months ago, before Apple decided to change their SDK guidelines, developers were able to transfer documents and other files to a general shared directory or to their app's personal "sandbox" folder. Most developers chose the general shared directory just for convenience sake. After the change though, a handful of book and document reading app developers had to remove their own USB sharing option when used with their custom desktop applications per Apple's request. However, now months later, Apple's newest rules allow developers to transfer files over USB using their own accompanying applications or iTunes' file sharing but it must be only to their app's "sandbox," and once again, Good.iWare has taken advantage of the opportunity. Good.iWare's GoodReader for iPad app has had the iTunes and Wi-Fi transfer methods available for some time, and iOS 4 provides that functionality to iPhone and iPod touch users. However, many still enjoyed using Good.iWare's GoodReaderUSB instead of iTunes, so they decided to bring it back. GoodReaderUSB offers some definite advantages over the simple iTunes file transfer. iPhone 3.0 and 3.1 users can still quickly share files with their computers, while iTunes file transfer requires iOS 4. iTunes only allows you to transfer files, but GoodReaderUSB lets you transfer entire folders to your iDevice, and easily browse and re-organize those folders. Download GoodReaderUSB for Mac OS 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6 or GoodReaderUSB for Windows XP, Vista, and 7 (must have iTunes installed) for free to get advanced USB file transfer support. Are GoodReader fans happy that they are back to a fully universal way to transfer files using USB between your computers and iDevices?
