Gorillaz - Escape To Plastic Beach Flies Into The App Store For iPhone And iPad

July 28, 2010

A new 3D game by Matmi brings a Gorillaz -- yes, the band -- themed adventure to the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The game was inspired by the band's third studio album, Plastic Beach, that had been released earlier this year. Gorillaz - Escape to Plastic Beach is actually based on the third chapter of what began as a free web browser based game. Unfortunately, the iDevice app isn't a universal release but does have an iPad version available Gorillaz - Escape to Plastic Beach puts you in control of Murdoc, the animated character representing the band's bassist, who floats and glides around the Plastic Beach headquarters in his Doom Glider. His mission is to keep 2D, the animated character representing the lead vocalist, from escaping while avoiding plenty of other enemies and obstacles. Among the fun and hectic gameplay, the apps feature a soundtrack provided by the inspired album, voice-overs from the actual band members, and artwork from Jamie Hewlett. The game also offers a high score global leaderboard, so you can compete to see who's the better pilot. Murdoc's Doom Glider is controlled via accelerometer, and you can fire the guns by tapping on the screen. You'll find yourself smack dab in the middle of hectic battles against ships, planes, and who knows what-else as you swoop, glide, and bank furiously around the visually pleasant 3D environments. Speaking of environments, there are eight different stages that become increasing more difficult. Gorillaz - Escape to Plastic Beach and Gorillaz - Escape to Plastic Beach for iPad are available in the App Store at $1.99 each.
