iPhone Antenna Issue: Video Evidence With Real Numbers

July 8, 2010

Remember the iPhone 4 antenna problems? Even if you're one of the lucky few who has not been affected by Apple's latest "disaster", you've probably heard about the iPhone 4's antenna issues, what with the extensive amount of coverage this problem has received over the past few weeks. Apple has recently stated that a "simple and surprising" solution to this issue has been found. Apple claims a miscalculation of signal bars on their part is causing erroneous signal readings. Other rumors about the use of Apple's conveniently created iPhone Bumpers as a potential fix have left many owners wondering whether to wait for a software update, buy a $29.00 bumper, or do nothing at all. Fortunately, the guys over at TUAW have investigated this further. Through the magic of cinema, they have produced a video demonstration of an afflicted iPhone 4, complete with stats. The video also examines the effect of an Apple iPhone bumper. You can check out the video below:

As you can see, the video highlights that holding the iPhone 4 in an otherwise normal position (as demonstrated in one of Apple's promotional videos) results in the phone's signal bars very quickly abandoning ship. Removing a hand from the phone allows for their return. And, with regards to the Apple iPhone Bumper, the investigation shows that the so called "death grip" can completely destroy your reception even if you have a bumper installed. So there goes that fix. However, don't forget: this all really depends on your signal strength. Users with a strong signal will not experience the above results. So what are you waiting for? Check out the video and let us know your thoughts in the comments box below!
