OtterBox Defender For iPhone 4 Debuts, Fends Off Evil

July 21, 2010

Upon seeing the new, mostly-glass physique of the iPhone 4, the immediate concern for many is how to protect it. OtterBox, the leader in the rugged iPhone case market, has finally debuted their offerings for iPhone 4 protection. According to a recent press release on OtterBox.com, they will be offering three distinct cases for the iPhone 4. The first, and most rugged, is named the Defender. The frame of the Defender is a nearly-indestructible polycarbonate shell with a clear protective cover over the touchscreen and rear Apple logo. The whole case is then wrapped in a silicone cover to provide ultimate protection. At a price of $49.95, this case should protect against everything except submersion or direct impact by a Kenworth. OtterBox claims that this case will also completely protect you from any antenna attenuation issues. Protection against alien oppressors is not specifically addressed, likely due to liability issues.

For those who want strong protection in a smaller form, Otterbox will soon be offering two other models; the $34.95 Commuter and the $19.95 Impact. The Commuter is a more standard full-body case that protects against most impacts, but the screen is only shielded by a standard stick-on cover. The Impact is essentially a more rugged and durable version of the traditional silicone case. The Defender is available now from OtterBox. The Commuter and Impact models will be available soon.
