If you're like me, and love the idea of remotely accessing your PC or Mac from the comfort of your iPad but have never found anything good (or cheap) enough in the App Store, then look no further:
TeamViewer HD is the app for you.
The developer, TeamViewer, has been busy at work recently, building a couple of fantastic applications for us all;
TeamViewer (iPhone), and
TeamViewer HD (iPad). Both allow Windows, Mac OS X and Linux users to remotely control their computer with ease and elegance.
After downloading your chosen free app (iPhone or iPad), users must then download a desktop application from
TeamViewer's site, which initiates the connection between computer and iDevice, providing log-in information when the application is launched.
From here, you simply open the app on your iPhone or iPad, type in the ID and password given by the desktop application, and then sit back and enjoy browsing through your computer on your portable iDevice.
A variety of touch controls allow you to manipulate your computer exactly as you would if you had a mouse plugged into it. We're not graced with trackpad "gestures", but in all seriousness, we don't need them. A single touch moves the screen, a double touch clicks, and two finger pinches zoom the screen in and out. What more could you possibly want?
TeamViewer really is a
brilliant app, and it has completely revolutionized the way I view my iPad. Being able to access my computer even a few feet away, from a sofa, is fantastic - and the experience is made all the better by the iPad's glorious HD display (and, of course, the fact that TeamViewer HD is
free - for personal use).
Any readers interested in using TeamViewer in a professional environment do have to pay a fee, but the majority of the app's users will be most interested in connecting to their personal computers - meaning that not a single penny has to be spent.
So be sure to check out
