Make The World A Better Place? There's An App For That
July 11, 2010
While Apple believes their products to be environmentally and socially superior, they have never claimed they actually make the world a better place. Now, thanks to two former high school classmates, your iPhone really can.
New app, PocketPhilanthropist, is an extremely simple application for donating to charity. The app features a different charity each week and a donate button. By simply loading the app and pushing a button, you donate $1 to this week's featured charity. Why did two former classmates create the app? Here is what Nathan Moyer, co-founder of PocketPhilanthropist, Inc. had to say in an article on ipadnewstracker.com:
"After witnessing the power of mobile donations for the Haiti crisis last year, we’ve found that avenues for making donations should become increasingly simple and accessible. Raising funds is a challenge for most charities, our vision is to simplify the process for them, and inspire people to take action today."While PocketPhilanthropist is not the only donation app on the iPhone, it does a great job of targeting the growing micro-donation market. Loading a free app and pushing a single button to give $1 might not seem like much but, thousands of people clicking the donate button each week can add up to a sizable donation to a deserving charity. In fact, the creators of PocketPhilanthropist are aiming to raise $1M in donations in just the first year.
