The App Store By The Numbers

While it is obvious the App Store is a resounding success, it is interesting to see how it stacks up against other mobile app markets. Mobile Entertainment compiled a list of facts about the App Store and competing mobile app markets. While some may not immediately consider mobile apps to be as important as PC apps, the average computer user does not download and install 60 apps a year.
The iPhone was not the first phone to utilize mobile apps, but it was the first to garner huge success from mobile apps. Because of this, and the newness of Android, it is no surprise that Apple is well ahead of its competition. With 5 billion downloads and 225,000 apps available in the App Store, Apple is clearly dominating.
These are just a sampling of 157 mobile app statistics collected by Mobile Entertainment. While some of them we've sampled here show overall app numbers and sales, the slideshow also has some fun facts about some of the most successful apps in the App Store.
