Apple Says Goodbye To Design Firm Following Prototype Tablet Premiere

August 27, 2010
Don't you just hate it when a great relationship turns sour? Be it personal or working, when a relationship breaks down and people have to go their separate ways, you can't help but feel a little sad - no matter who's involved. Sometimes you can avoid it, yet other times you can't. And, sometimes you can predict the demise before it actually happens. Today, I found myself wondering whether Apple's long-time business pal, SurfaceInk, knew that showing off a recently-designed tablet prototype would force Steve to turn his back on the 50-strong design company. I'm inclined to think the answer to that question, is "no." Regardless, the companies have officially gone their separate ways - with SurfaceInk's founder explaining to the NYTimes yesterday that he thinks "they [Apple] view our capabilities as an opportunity for competitors." The final nail in the coffin came following SurfaceInk's premier of a 12.1" prototype tablet the company had designed. You can check out an embedded YouTube video below, which should explain exactly why Apple's nervous about the tablet's potential. Let us know what you think of it in the comments box at the bottom of this article!
