Apple iPhone Repair Cost Is Extortionate And Unnecessary?

August 16, 2010
Oh dear, Apple - have you heard what your UK fanboys are saying? You're ripping them off, apparently. The cost of your handset screen repairs are £100 over what an independent company might charge, according to economical guru Martin Lewis. Indeed, as the founder of Money Saving Expert (and popular daytime TV celeb) states in his usual vehement style: Apple is "ripping-off" customers who are "seduced by the power of the brand." According to UK newspaper, The Sunday Telegraph, a whole host of independent firms are willing to fix the most common iPhone afflictions for around £100 below what Apple is asking - even sourcing replacement screens from the same supplier as Apple. However, Matt Bath, the technology editor of Which? magazine, didn't side with Lewis' claims - stating the magazine was "open to debate" as to whether Apple's repair prices are an accurate reflection of cost. Obviously, customers are going to want to pay more for the security of the Apple-blanket, and to ensure that warranty coverage is not lost. Apple itself didn't comment on the cost of its repairs, so we're opening the question up to you: Do you think Apple's repair prices are extortionate? And, if you do, would you ever consider paying an independent firm to repair your broken iDevice? Let us know in the comments box below!
