Oceanhouse's Latest Dr. Seuss Classics: Yertle The Turtle And The Big Brag For iPhone And iPad

August 8, 2010

In the realm of children's books, there are likely few that don't know the classics of Dr. Seuss. Oceanhouse Media has brought two more of these cartoon creations to the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, Yertle the Turtle and The Big Brag. Two tales that revolve around the lesson of selfishness. Yertle the Turtle tells the story of a greedy turtle named Yertle. "Yertle the King" wasn't satisfied with the size of his small kingdom, he just couldn't see far enough from his tiny throne. He decides to force the other turtles to come together and stack atop one another as high as they could go. Once the pile got so large, turtles on the bottom began to complain about the pain. Yertle would just respond with a shout for them to be quiet. Finally, Mack makes a decision that he cannot take this any more and finds a way to free his turtle friends. The Big Brag brings readers upon a rabbit and a bear that feel they are the "best of the beasts." A rabbit can hear sounds from far away, and the bear can smell things even better than the rabbit can hear. However, the two animals meet a worm that looks around the world and the one thing he notices are "the two biggest fools that have ever been seen!" A related story that Oceanhouse released already last month is Gertrude McFuzz. Gertrude McFuzz was a bird that felt she wasn't pretty enough. Gertrude was jealous of the other birds and embarrassed of her single, and what she perceived as insignificant, tail feather. Gertrude is able to find berries that will give her more and beautiful tail feathers. As she adds more and more feathers, she begins to gain self-esteem but not before realizing what this has done. These and other universal or iPad specifically designed apps by Oceanhouse offer three great ways to read their interactive eBooks. • Read to Me - listen to the narrated story with words highlighted as they are read • Read it Myself - read the book in its traditional form • Auto Play - plays like a movie, automatically reading and turning pages. Great for younger children! Theodor Seuss Geisel, or otherwise known as Dr. Seuss, has certainly made history when it comes to children's stories. He has written over 60 different books oriented to telling crazy tales about whacky characters. His books comprise cartoon drawings with short rhymes to bring about a unique experience that certainly draws attention and is most definitely memorable. Yertle the Turtle is a universal eBook app compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and available for $3.99. The Big Brag is also a universal app and is available for only $1.99 because it is another one of Dr. Seuss' short stories. Oceanhouse has already released a number of other classics, like Green Eggs and Ham and Hop on Pop or maybe One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and Oh, the Places You'll Go! Feel free to check them out as well.
