Email-Based FaceTime Support Is A Go In iOS 4.1 Beta 3

August 7, 2010

There is little doubt that Apple has big plans for FaceTime. As we've told you so many times before, it's due to hit the iPod touch shortly, then the iPad and maybe even the Mac after that. In case you still have any doubt about it, Apple just added email-based FaceTime support to iOS in the latest iOS 4.1 beta 3. This way, FaceTime will no longer require a phone number to establish a connection between two devices.

Spotted by Macrumors, the feature is actually not much of a surprise as it was first leaked by BGR back in July. Seeing it confirmed, however, gives us hope that the iPhone 4 will soon lose its FaceTime exclusivity.
