Google Mobile App Updated - Push Notifications For Gmail And Calendar

August 23, 2010
Great news, Google Mobile fans: the popular universal application has just received an update that adds push notifications for Gmail and Google Calendar! While the update doesn't bring Retina display graphics to the app, the push notifications it offers are a big enough deal. Up until now, only MobileMe subscribers could receive push email notifications on their iDevices. Yahoo! Mail and Gmail could be configured, but as many will vouch, it was an inexact science that often failed. However, this latest update kills two birds with one push notified stone: not only do Google Mobile users get notifications when they get a new email, but calendar events are also pushed to their iPhone handset! And, what's more - users can choose what kind of notification they want, be it a badge or an SMS-style pop-up. The choice is yours. So, if you've got the free Google Mobile App installed on your iDevice, be sure to head over to the App Store and check for updates now! The new version is available, so you should have no problems downloading and configuring push notifications straight away. And, don't forget to let us know how Google's notifications work for you in the comments box at the bottom of this article! [gallery]
