Let Your iPhone Take You To The Moon
August 24, 2010
While the iPhone's GPS won't help you navigate on the moon, the iPhone's camera can be a great way to take pictures of it.
One of the iPhone 4's greatest, but not often mentioned, features is the 5MP camera. Some have beefed up the camera by adding an SLR lens, but one Japanese camera nut went a bit farther. As posted on his blog at Jurilog.jp, he added a small telescope and camera mount which gave him the ability to photograph near-earth objects, such as the moon.
This is not the first picture taken of the Moon with an iPhone, but this is likely one of the most simple and elegant camera setups used to take the picture. The simple 7x zoom telescope proves to be just the right setup to product photos of the moon, like seen at the top of this post.
This camera setup also includes a tripod mount, as it is never advised to try to take a picture of something 238,000 miles away without one. Turning the flash off is obviously recommended as well.
Given the high quality camera and screen on the iPhone 4, this would also make a good setup for viewing Space Station flyovers and distant sporting events. AppAdvice would never recommend using your iPhone to watch your neighbors, but if you did, this would be a good setup for that too.
