PayPal iPhone App Soon To Become More Charitable, And Better For Checks

August 15, 2010
We all know eBay loves a bit of wireless technology. The company has been adding and updating its iPhone and iPad applications like crazy over the past few months, including its PayPal app, which received the ability to bump (among other things). However, according to TechCrunch, the magic doesn't stop there. Users of the PayPal application will soon be able to donate money to one of 20,000 various charitable organizations right from the app - making it all the more easier to give. According to PayPal's president (Scott Thompson), this feature comes following the immense number of text donations that were made in the wake of the Haiti earthquake earlier this year. The company rightly assumes that, if people are going to give, they want to be able to do so quickly, easily, and anonymously - this new feature aims to satisfy all three criteria. In addition to this, the new version of the app (which is expected to hit the App Store within a few months), will also include a new and easy way for users to deposit checks simply by taking a couple of photos. One photo of the front, and one of the back, allows the check to be deposited in the user's PayPal account. Pretty cool, right? Like I said, this new update isn't expected any time soon - we do have a few months to wait until we can start getting snap happy with our checks. Though, if this early report is anything to go by, I think it's pretty safe to assume that the wait for PayPal's new update is going to be worth it.
