UK Carrier O2's "Green Rankings" Don't Float Apple's Boat

We all love green products, right? I mean, being environmentally friendly is great - and important, if half the stuff we're told about global warming is right. Which is why it's essential our beloved Apple products are made with the environment (as well as their future owners) in mind.
As you probably already know, Apple praises itself on being fantastically "clued up" on all things green. In fact, a whole section of their website is dedicated to the environment, and to convincing potential customers that Steve is doing all he can to fight for the future. You can pretty much imagine the halo rings about the CEO's balding head. Indeed, the efforts Apple makes in protecting the environment are substantial.
Which is why I was surprised to hear (from UK newspaper, the Guardian), that Apple has "blocked" iPhones from carrier O2's green ranking scheme. This is especially curious when one is reminded that O2 used to hold iPhone exclusivity in the UK - even now, many have chosen the familiar network for their iPhone 4 handsets. And, with Apple's glorious eco-efforts, you'd expect the company to want to partake in the 63-question survey O2 sent out to a variety of consumer electronics companies.
While Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and Samsung were all more than happy to fill out the form and send it back to O2, Apple apparently refused.
I've got no idea exactly why Apple decided not to participate in O2's survey. Perhaps the company's eco-rep isn't as great as it it appears to be - or perhaps Apple would rather its customers hear the official stats from the official site. Who knows?
We'll be posting if Apple decide to partake in O2's survey, though the outlook is bleak. In the meantime, Apple fans can find out everything they need to know about the company's environmental footprint on Apple's site.
