Yahoo! Mail Joins The HTML5 Club

August 18, 2010
Great news for iDevice-owning Yahoo! Mail users: the popular email service has now added support for HTML5. This means users can now fully interact with the site on their iPhones and iPads. Indeed, as 9to5Mac reports, the recent switch adds a series of new features. A new design (à la iPad) dominates your device, giving an email preview on the right opposite your mailboxes on the left. When offline, Yahoo! Mail is still able to access messages using local caching, which is a great feature. Photos may be previewed or viewed in their full form, and the search feature has been greatly improved. Here's what Lee Parry (product manager for Yahoo! Mail) had to say regarding the change:
If you've used our recently launched HTML5 mobile Web mail for iPhone you'll feel right at home. We've kept all the things users love about our new mobile Web mail experience, while also optimizing for the gorgeous large screen of the iPad.
So, what are you waiting for? Check out the new HTML5 version of Yahoo! Mail by pointing your iDevice to http://mail.yahoo.com in Safari. And, let us know what you think of the service in the comments box below!
