Apple Takes iPhoneography Seriously And Decides To Feature It In Apple Retail Stores

September 22, 2010
Technology has changed the way art is created and displayed by creative enthusiasts. The advancement of technology has made it cheaper, more convenient, and easier for those with a "creative eye" to make a masterpiece. Apple has inadvertently created a new art form with the creation of their smartphone: iPhone photography.  The company is not only planning to acknowledge this new creative outlet, but plans to exhibit chosen artwork at its flagship stores through the coming months. iPhone photography, or otherwise known as iPhoneography or iPhontography, is the manner of creating unique artwork with just your iPhone. Thousands have taken part but one person helped create the first ever iPhoneography gallery exhibit. Artist and composer Knox Bronson spoke with architect and artist Rae Douglass in December 2009 with the idea of exhibiting iPhoneography work at his gallery in Berkeley, California. Rae approved, which paved the way for Knox to create a web site and begin accepting submissions. After a jury carefully chose 200 final images, the Pixels At An Exhibition was ready to begin. Running from late January through February of this year, the show became a success. Apple asked Pixels to create and manage some future shows to honor select artists and promote the developing art form of iPhoneography.
This sudden awareness was the result of the presentation we made in August to the monthly meeting of the Artistic Photographers of America, held at the San Francisco Apple store.
The iPhone Art Show: "Pixels at an Exhibition" will debut at Apple's San Francisco Apple Retail Store on September 27th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. The Chicago Apple Retail Store will be hosting one on October 21st from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. The final confirmed showing thus far will be at the NYC SoHo Apple Retail Store from 6:00 until 7:30 PM on October 29th. Will you be attending any of these events, or perhaps maybe become an iPhoneographer yourself? [via Pixels]
