iPhones, iPads, and iPods allow us to listen to our favorite tracks on the go. Yet, it's not always safe to do so. If you're walking along the sidewalk with your headphones plugged into your iPhone, it's sometimes impossible to hear the outside world. And, this can become a bit of a problem.
It might be something as simple as hearing your friend speak. Or, as the app's developer states, you may want to "hear that truck horn before it's too late." Either way, Awareness! The Headphone App can help.
The application, which is currently priced at $4.99, uses your iDevice's microphone to pick up noises around you which are louder than whatever it is you're listening to. When this happens, the app delivers the noise to your headphones, allowing users to hear what's happening in the world around them.
Awareness! is a clever app which can be used wherever you happen to be. Additionally, it makes use of iOS 4's multitasking to run in the background on your iPhone 4, 3GS, or iPod touch. And, it doesn't just work with music. You can also use Awareness! with your videos, games, and audiobooks. All current reviews of the application in iTunes have given it five-stars, so its users are undoubtedly impressed.
Currently, Awareness! is in its early days (version 1.1) - yet it seems to work very well indeed. It comes at a price ($4.99), which reflects the app's worth.
