Take controlling your address book to a new level with ABContacts. The app provides five main areas to manage, organize, and connect to your friends, family and co-workers with more power than before. The sections include: Contacts, Smart Groups, Dialer, Recent Calls, and Favorites. Quickly navigate to any section by just tapping on the title bar of any pane.
Contact view shows all contacts and any groups. Tapping on a group will bring you to the list of contacts within that group. Tapping on a contact will bring you to the normal Apple Address Book contact pane while a tap-and-hold will display a simple and clean panel for calling, texting, and emailing an individual.
In the top right of each group list are lightning bolt and funnel icons. The funnel icon contains filtering options: matching field text, birthdays, events, and companies. The lightning bolt gives options to edit the group, add contacts to the group, or add an entirely new contact to your address book. Add a contact quickly with only the basic information using Fast New Contact or add every tidbit using the traditional Add New Contact method.
The app offers both Smart Groups and Native Groups. Native Groups are those you assemble in a more traditional and manual fashion by choosing individual contacts via a list. Smart Groups, as you may have already guessed, use one or more rules to automatically fill a group for you. Rules can involve matching text in a certain field, grabbing any contact with a particular field filled with any data, and match by birthdays or events from today to up to 60 days away.
The Dialer allows you to enter in any number or use your favorites by just tapping and holding on a number, easily assignable and manageable under the Favorites section. Tapping on the top right button within Favorites switches between list and graphical view of your most common contacts. Want to move them around, including switching number assignments? Just tap Edit and use an up or down dragging motion within the right-most column.
There are numerous app customization options available within the ABContacts section of your iDevice Settings app -- too many to list, actually. The one group of settings available within the ABContacts app is a Configure Applications feature. This feature opens up the ability to channel the potential of ABContacts to many other apps that provide voice, text, and email capabilities.
Most users will likely be satisfied with the built-in Apple apps handling things, but you can choose to use Google Voice apps, Skype, TextNow, Line2, and more. As new apps are released and become compatible companions, just head to this section again and tap the Refresh button. For example, refreshing the list now adds the new GV Mobile + to the list of available telephone and text clients. Finally, your new groups will be available within the Apple Contacts (Address Book) app, and to any other applications that have access to it.
