Apple Granted Patent For SMS Filtration Service

October 13, 2010
If you wish you had the ability to filter SMS messages sent from your iPhone, here's good news: this feature may be coming soon. According to iSmashPhone, Apple has recently been granted a patent for an SMS filtration feature. The new patent, entitled "Text-based communication control for personal communication device," was granted on Tuesday. Essentially, this gives iPhone owners the ability to control outgoing SMS messages. For example, you can ban particular words from being sent in a text message, or require that all words are spelled correctly. Some have mused that this will put an end to "sexting" for some. However, it could also be pretty handy. How many times has your iPhone incorrectly autocorrected the last word of a text message just as you've hit the Send button? If this patent is implemented, it's possible you could never send an incorrectly spelled text message again. We'll keep you posted on this interesting patent. Who knows, it might even be included in a future iOS 4 software update (perhaps iOS 4.3?). Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
