Apple is rumored to have created a special SIM card which would make purchasing an iPhone online a whole lot easier.
According to a recent report by Gigaom, Apple has been working closely with SIM manufacturer, Gemalto. Recently, they managed to create a SIM card which can be integrated within the iPhone itself. The new SIM would allow customers to easily buy their iPhone from an Apple Online Store, and have it up and running without having to call a carrier.
Instead, customers would be able to choose their carrier when purchasing the handset, and get the iPhone up and running using the Apple Store application. This is definitely preferable to visiting a carrier store, or phoning the carrier.
The new SIM is expected to suit Europe perfectly, as most carriers there use the same network technology. Undoubtedly, roaming will be made much easier by this move, as the Gemalto SIM would simply pick up new networks as you move from country to country.
Within the past few weeks, representatives from several French carriers have been visiting Cupertino. Obviously, this fits in perfectly with the current Gemalto SIM rumors. As always, we'll keep you posted if any further news becomes available. In the meantime, if you have an opinion on this, post it in the comments below!
