Combine Your Rhythm And Racing Skills In Tapulous' Free Version Of Riddim Ribbon
October 27, 2010
Tapulous has decided to open up their rhythm and racing mashup game to a much broader audience. The single artist exclusive, Riddim Ribbon feat. The Black Eyed Peas, was released back in February of this year. Today's release houses more than a dozen different artists, paid and free, plus a number of additional play features.
Riddim Ribbon has many of the same concepts as other rhythm-based games, like Tap Tap Revenge 3. Instead of tapping to the beat, you need to collect pebbles in tune to the music while racing down a ribbon.
Tilt your iDevice left or right to steer, and flick to jump over any obstacles. Maintain a streak of collecting pebbles to increase your score multiplier. Jumping through rings works like checkpoints. If you happen to be able to fly to the upper-level course, you'll find yourself jamming to a remixed version of the song -- which also makes things a flashy yellow.
It's important to pay attention to colored pebbles. If the tray at the bottom fills up, you will be deducted points. The upcoming color will be indicated by the drop position arrow, and the two ball control arrows. Tap on the big left and right arrows to move the drop indicator as needed. Match three same-color pebbles in a row to make them disappear.
Single player mode allows you to strive for the highest score for each track on three different difficulties: easy, medium, and hard. After completing a song, you automatically get the option to accept the challenge of beating another player's score that's just above the score you've just earned.
Online play allows you to join in on one of the same three difficulties, but pits you against other racers. There are numerous rooms, with each room listing the players, time until the race begins, and even a chat section. At the end of the race, you're provided the final score results, plus automatically entered into the next round.
The Store provides access to free songs, premium paid songs, and special offers. Special offers are a way for Tapulous to get some free press while giving you something in return, credits to use towards songs. Riddim Ribbon includes two free embedded tracks, "Like A G6" by Far East Movement and "Pop Fiction" by Come On Come On, along with 15 more freely downloadable.
