MuscleNerd, the most vocal member of the famous Dev-Team, was extra informative earlier today. Speaking from his Twitter account, he made the following statements:
For all new limera1n and greenpois0n jailbreakers: there is also unlock on the horizon for at least some of you in 4.2
For AppleTV 2G users, the goal is for PwnageTool to cover you by Funday/Sunday (but still very limited app capability)The Dev-Team released greenpois0n earlier today. This new tool has the ability to jailbreak iDevices running iOS 4.1, though currently it is Windows only. The release of greenpois0n was originally scheduled for Sunday, however geohot's limera1n release persuaded the Dev-Team to postpone. Despite the new jailbreak tool, an updated unlock tool has not yet been released. And, if MuscleNerd's tweet is anything to go by, we're probably not going to see one released until iOS 4.2 (which is scheduled for November). If you've implemented a carrier unlock on your iDevice, hold off on updating and jailbreaking until the Dev-Team gives the go-ahead. MuscleNerd's other tweet, regarding an update to Pwnage Tool, is undoubtedly very exciting news. We've known for a while now that Apple TV can be jailbroken, though as of yet no jailbreak tool has been released. If an update to Pwnage Tool brought Apple TV 2G compatibility, owners of the set-top box would be able to easily jailbreak the device, and would be very happy indeed. As ModMyi notes, developers need to start creating Apple TV apps as soon as possible. As the device does not utilize a touchscreen (like the iDevices), developing for Apple TV will obviously differ from what developers are already used to. It'll definitely be interesting to see how apps run on a jailbroken Apple TV. We'll be posting as soon as we hear more, so check back with us for regular updates! In the meantime, you can check out MuscleNerd's tweets below.
